John Christopher Depp II was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky,

The youngest of four children to waitress Betty Sue Palmer and civil engineer John Christopher Depp.

Depp's family moved frequently during his childhood,

Eventually settling in Miramar, Florida in 1970. Her parents divorced in 1978 when she was 15 years old,

and her mother later married Robert Palmer, whom Depp called an "inspiration."

Depp's mother gave him the guitar at the age of 12 and he started playing in various bands.

He left Miramar High School at the age of 16 in 1979 to become a rock musician.

He tried to return to school after two weeks, but the principal asked him to pursue his dream of becoming a musician.

In 1980, Depp began playing in a band called The Kids.

After modest local success in Florida, the band moved to Los Angeles in search of a record deal,

which was dubbed the Six-Gun Method. In addition to the band, 

Depp did a variety of great things, such as telemarketing. 

In December 1983, Depp married makeup artist Lori Anne Ellison, the band's bassist, and singer's sister.

The kids parted ways in 1984 before signing a record deal, and Depp began collaborating with the Rock City Angels band.
