Valerie Anne Bertinelli is an American actress. Known for her work in television acting and presentation,

her accolades include two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards,

and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. In 2012, she was featured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Bertinelli was first recognized as a child actress, playing Barbara Cooper Royer in One Day at a Time (1975–1984),

for which she won Best Supporting Support in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film.

Bertinelli was born in Wilmington, Delaware, to General Motors executives Nancy and Andrew Bertinelli.

Her father is of Italian descent and her mother is of English descent. She has three brothers: David, Patrick, and Drew.

An older brother, Mark, died of accidental poisoning 17 months before birth.

Because of his father's career, the family moved frequently. At different times,

they lived in Clement, Delaware; Clarkston, Michigan; Shreveport, Louisiana; Oklahoma City,

and Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, where Bertinelli performed at the Tammy Lynn School of Artists.

He attended Granada Hills High School and became a Roman Catholic.
